Engraving, built-to-order Macs delayed

Apple is briefly upgrading its free holiday shipping offers in the US, a check of the company's online store shows. While two- to three-day shipping is no longer an option, through tomorrow people can now get many Apple products shipped the next day. The main exceptions are the iPhone 4S, anything engraved, and custom-ordered Macs outside of "popular" configurations.

The iPhone 4S delay is linked to supply continuing to fall short of demand. Virtually immediately after 4S sales began shipping times extended out to one to two weeks, where they still sit currently. If the 4S follows past iPhone trends, shipping times won't ease until well after the holidays are over.
