Ford Europe intros USB Music Box accessory

Ford of Europe will soon begin offering an accessory for some of its newer vehicles that will allow drivers to play back music and audio tracks from USB mass storage devices. Called the USB Music Box, it connects to the factory radio's auxiliary input and supports smartphones and MP3 players, recharging them as well. What's more, users can often navigate tracks through the steering wheel-mounted controls.

The USB dongle can be placed in the glovebox, centre console, or armrest cubby. The accessory can be installed in European Ford models that have an auxiliary button, including the 2006-2009 Fiesta, 2006 and newer Fusions, the 2004-2011 Focus, the 2003-2010 C-MAX, all models of the Kuga, 2004 and newer Mondeos, all S-MAX models, and 2006 and newer Galaxy, Transit, and Transit Connect vans.

Ford hasn't said if or when it plans to bring the USB Music Box to the US, although it's less necessary given more frequent additions of USB in the automaker's home country.

    Ford Sync?

If it has anything at all to do with Ford Sync, it won't work. At least not without making you cuss. Ever since Ford teamed up with Microsoft to put their software in their cars, I won't sit in one with the engine running.

    Much better now

I've had the same experience as yourself with the older Ford's and Sync ... but my 2012 is actually quite good. The voice recognition and the iPod control is better and more accurate in many ways than my 2010 Acura TL. (and the Ford is about 1/2 the price!)

    Color me impressed.
