Pulse gets Smart Dock, 'cleaner' interface

Three prominent iOS apps have received major updates. The first two are the iPad and iPhone editions of Pulse News. Both have been upgraded to v2.7, giving them "cleaner" interfaces, designed to put more emphasis on the actual content. The new Smart Dock suggests feeds based on earlier reading, while the source catalog has been redesigned to use Cover Flow for easier category selection.

Cynapse has updated Localscope to v2.0. The search and navigation app has been given numerous enhancements, such as access to geotagged media alongside local information. Six new sources include YouTube, Instagram, Facebook Places, Flickr, Panoramio, and Picasa; an added gallery view lets users browse tagged images and video.

A managing utility can be used to edit or organize sources, and a new home dashboard is in use. Many aspects of the app have in fact been redesigned, such as the detail view, the map and augmented reality views, and switching between different sections. Cynapse is also promising in-app help functions, and substantial speed optimizations, particularly for the iPhone 4S. While the Pulse News apps are free, Localscope costs $2.
