Allows use of primary functions while in case

At CES yesterday, accessory maker iLuv unveiled a portable stereo speaker case for the iPhone and other compatible smartphones called the Smashbox Pro. The case provides rugged full protection, stereo sound and access to the primary features of the phone without taking it out of the case. Enhanced with its own power (in the form of two AA batteries), the case functions as a speaker for both music and phone conversations (that utilizes the built-in microphone).

It includes a carabiner clip, a hanging clip and a Velcro strap for flexibility in storage and portability. The unit weighs less than half a pound but provides a pair of 1.25-inch speaker drivers with four ohms of impedance. The smartphone is entirely enclosed in the zippered case with external buttons to answer or end a call, play and pause music, and control volume and power. A 3.5mm jack connects the audio output of the device to the case's speakers.

The Smashbox Pro is designed with the iPod Touch, iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S series (or other MP3 players) in mind. It is on display at the iLuv booth at CES and will be arriving in retail shops in May. It is expected to retail for $25.
