IK Multimedia targets music pros with iOS gear

IK Multimedia used the run-up to the NAMM show to unveil a pair of accessories targeted just at iOS users wanting to make professional music. The iRig PRE takes an XLR microphone input and pre-amps it with a typical 3.5mm headphone jack to give live monitoring. The add-on has its own 9V battery and can produce as much as +48V of phantom power for condenser mics, running as long as 15 hours (40 hours on dynamic microphones) without needing a wall plug or sapping the iOS device's battery.

Performers can control gain from the iRig itself and get a Velcro strip slot so that it can be kept out of the way while playing. Two free companion apps are available, iRig Recorder for voice editing and VocaLive for live effects processing.

The iRig PRE supports most any recent iOS device and should be ready in early spring and will cost $40.

iPad owners get their own, professionally oriented stand. iKlip Studio aims to improve on traditional stands with an adjustable design that can keep the iPad at a low angle for playing music as well as fold completely for travel. Its rubberized feet and cradle are designed to keep the device steady even with very enthusiastic use, IK says. The cradle supports most cases, and it has both an exposed back and a removable bracket to clip an iRig interface adapter.

iKlip Studio buyers get their accessory sooner, before the end of March, and pay $30.
