MoboVivo, Orb bring streaming content to iPhone
Two new software-as-a-service media-sharing products are currently in development for iPhone and iPod touch users, MoboVivo and Orb. MoboVivo is a commercial service that has recently finalized iPhone and iPod touch support, allowing users to "Buy and Sync" television shows directly to their device. The service offers multiple channels, such as MoboDiva, MoboDocs, UrbanVivo, and various lifestyle and entertainment channels. The service is also available to a number of different players and gaming consoles from companies like Archos, Microsoft, and Sony. Episodes are available from the service for $2, and the company says that it is the first to make paid TV downloads available to Canadians.
“MoboVivo content is entertaining, but it is also important and smart,” said Trevor Doerksen, CEO of MoboVivo. “We know our customers want to live healthy, eat well, and stay informed, our documentary channel and lifestyle channel are very popular. We also know our customers are active and urban and the UrbanVivo nightlife channel is great entertainment.”
Orb is another web-based service that allows users to stream content from their computer's media player to both themselves and friends. While no word has been given from the company themselves, The Register reports that Orb is expected to announce official support for the iPod touch and iPhone. The service currently requires the use of an Orb-powered version of Winamp, so it is uncertain as to whether iTunes users will be able to take advantage of content streaming. Orb streams a user's media in the WAN-friendly MP4 format, and links can be forwarded to friends through SMS messages.
