Apple retail stores set new record: 10m more visitors

Apple's first-quarter financial results revealed record retail revenue of $1.7 billion for a whopping 53 percent growth over the year-ago quarter. "We opened six other new stores during the quarter, ending with 204 stores," said Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer. "With an average of 201 stores open during the quarter, average revenue per store was $8.5 million compared to $6.6 million in the year-ago quarter." The stores sold a record 504,000 Macs, representing a 64 percent year-over-year growth. The company also said that it added more than 10 million visitors over the year-ago quarter.

"Once again, over 50 percent of the customers buying Macs in our stores during the quarter were new to Mac," Oppenheimer said. "Store traffic hit a new record with 38.4 million visitors during the quarter, representing 14.7 thousand visitors per store, per week. An increase of over 10 million visitors from the prior December quarter."

Apple's retail stores also delivered more than 300,000 personal training sessions during the quarter, according to the company, signaling yet another new all-time high.
