Facebook prepares second iPhone app
Facebook is already preparing a major revision of its native iPhone application, a new preview reveals. Version 2.0 of the software will introduce several important features, most notably an improved News Feed, which will go beyond status updates and photo uploads to show all the items people would normally see on the desktop website. Users will additionally be able to comment on all articles, and filter by apps, categories and friend lists.

Notifications will arrive while the app is running, and Facebook says it is already laying the groundwork for Apple's background push technology, which will allow notifications to be received while in different apps. This latter feature will have to wait for a future update, as background push is only due sometime in September.

Profiles have been redesigned to use tabs, and also to combine the normally separate Wall and Mini-Feed sections. It will further be possible to search for people and add them as friends, and view a complete message history, rather than just the most recent 30 listings. No date has been announced for v2.0's release.
