Newertech unveils hicap iBook batteries, lower prices

Newertech today announced new additions to its line of computer accessories, and lower prices on some of its established products. New items include NuPower iBook batteries; a 4400mAh battery for PowerBooks, said to boost capacity by 37 percent over its OEM counterpart; and a 4400mAh version for the 14-inch iBook G3, which boosts lifespan by 18 percent.

Newertech has also created an 11-piece portable toolkit to service desktop or notebook computers. Straight, Philips and Torx drivers are enclosed with other tools in a nylon case.

Pricing has meanwhile been lowered for the miniStack external hard drives, which feature three FireWire 400 ports and four USB 2.0 ports, and capacities between 80GB and 1.5TB. The drives operate at 7200rpm, with data caches between 8 and 32MB.

Cost has also been lowered on Newertech's VIDEO+ all-in-one battery, stand and docking station for the iPod video. It allegedly supports up to 16 hours of video or 80 hours of music, and charges an iPod battery up to three times for use when disconnected from the dock.

Prices for the NuPower iBook "clamshell" 4400mAh and 14-inch iBook G3 4400mAh batteries are both $100. The miniStack storage devices start at $105, and the VIDEO+ iPod accessory is $28. All of these are available from Other World Computing.
