Optoma today said it has struck a deal with Apple Japan to launch its version of Texas Instruments' DLP Pico projector in the country under the PK-101 name. The pocket-sized unit will support both the headphone jack-mounted video output of the fifth-generation iPod but will come with a Dock Connector kit that handles video from iPhones and all video-capable iPods that support TV out, creating a picture as large as 60 inches for Apple's mobile devices.The projector outputs at the native 480x320 resolution of the iPhone and iPod touch and manages a 1,000:! contrast ratio but only 10 lumens brightness. A built-in, half-watt speaker setup provides basic audio. Battery life outside of AC power is rated at two hours.
Although not limited to iPhones or iPods, Optoma's deal will see the PK-101 appear first at the online Apple Store for preorders on November 20th for actual availability on December 19th. Pricing is estimated at 50,000 Yen ($511 US). [via Impress]
